joimax first online endoscopic spine symposium, April 2020

On April 24, joimax® Founder and CEO Wolfgang Ries, moderated a panel with faculty members Ralf Wagner, MD (Ligamenta Spine Center Frankfurt-Germany) and Christoph Hofstetter, MD, PhD (University of Washington Medicine, Neurosurgery Department, Seattle/USA). The following day, faculty member, Junseok Bae, MD (President of Wooridul Spine Hospital Seoul, South Korea), joined the panel.

On both days, the agenda included a theoretical part focused on transforaminal and interlaminar indications, and the general possibilities of endoscopy from lumbar to thoracic to cervical, as well as a hands-on lab portion. In the wet lab, Dr. Ralf Wagner demonstrated the joimax® product application of TESSYS® and iLESSYS® in specific indications. Moreover, there were presentations of Intracs® em , the first electromagnetic system for endoscopic spine applications that can navigate instruments directly at the tip. This navigation system combines lateral and AP images of the C-arm with CT scan, providing surgeons with most accurate views of the target region.

The Symposium also featured special guests: Dr. Menno Iprenburg (Iprenburg Spine Clinic, Veenhuizen, Netherlands) and Prof. Alastair Gibson (The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Scotland); both board members of ESPINEA® Academy, who gave their valued input, based on their long-lasting experience.

“This is the  future of digital education and a great way to virtually meet and learn,” stated Dr. Iprenburg.  Prof. Gibson added, “excellent Symposium; it couldn’t get any better”.

The Symposium marked a major milestone, with 430 participants. Surgeons from all over the world joined this unique online education program and stimulating Q&A session.

When safe, joimax® will transition back to on-site workshops and trainings, but in the  meantimewill continue with its attention-grabbing online webinars.

joimax® Hosts International Training Summit to Showcase Innovative Technologies Presents Kambin Award; Introduces Endoscopic Spine Academy

Karlsruhe, GER– March 12, 2019 – Earlier this month, at the international training summit dubbed, Faculty and User Meeting, joimax®, the Germany-based market leader of technologies and training methods for full-endoscopic minimally-invasive spinal surgery, presented its newest products and technologies. During the two-day event, joimax® also honored four surgeons with the Kambin Award and introduced the Endoscopic Spine Academy, ESPINEA® .

The summit took place at the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) in Salzburg, Austria, March 1-2, 2019 where more than 100 participants attended top-class presentations as well as well a human cadaver lab. The lab was equipped with ten hands-on training stations: six cadaveric stations with 4K image resolution equipment and within those stations, two Intracs® navigation systems where integrated; two stations with Real Spine simulation models; and two stations with the latest EndoTrainer® Plus virtual simulator, which can be used in any lab for training.

The Intracs® em electromagnetic navigation system for endoscopic minimally invasive spine surgery in lumbar and thoracic applications is very easy to set up, extremely user-friendly, and ready to serve as a stand-alone device. Specifically designed for simple and safe access to any spinal target, the system relies on electromagnetic tracking and allows for simultaneous navigation of multiple instruments such as needles, guiding rods, reamers, and endoscopes, also developed by joimax®.

Dr. Erik Traupe (Germering, GER) stated: “I am really surprised how precise and easy navigation can be.”

After multiple successful introductions in 2018, Intracs® em is available globally, except in the United States, where FDA submission is planned in spring 2019.

Another trendsetting innovation presented at the summit: the joimax® TESSYS® Thx, a derivative of the well-known TESSYS®. Designed for a comfortable and safe treatment of decompressions in the thoracic region, it combines a special endoscope for thoracic applications, a viewing angle with 45° adapted to a steeper access route, a reduced diameter and a big working channel.

Jun Seok Bae, MD of the Wooridul Spine Hospital Group in South Korea is very excited about the advantages: “… just great, I want it a.s.a.p. and am ready in my hospital for daily usage!”

Moreover, joimax® showcased its EndoLIF® product line: the well-known 3D-printed EndoLIF® O/On-Cage, the EndoLIF® Delta Cage, and the latest EndoLIF® Double Wedge Cage, where approval is expected shortly.

Both Dr. Ralf Wagner (Frankfurt, GER) and Dr. Paul Houle (Cape Cod, MA, USA) are convinced of this solution for spinal fusion: “With the gentle and atraumatic access via gradual tissue dilatation, muscles remain intact and infection risk is reduced. Using 3D-printing technology, an open diamond cell structure, and a rough and porous surface, the implant ensures optimal bone ingrowth, stability and finally fusion.”

During the summit, the Parviz Kambin-Award was presented under the patronage of the PMU, ESPINEA and joimax® in recognition and honor of outstanding scientific and educational dedication to transforaminal surgery to Christoph P. Hofstetter (Seattle, WA, USA), Jian Shen (Amsterdam, NY, USA), Albert Telfeian (Providence, RI, USA) and Dinh Ngoc Son (Hanoi, Vietnam).

“I am thrilled about the Kambin Award, the most prestigious award in endoscopic spine surgery,” said Jian Shen.

Additionally, joimax® announced the recently founded and globally acting Endoscopic Spine Academy (ESPINEA). Backed by a scientific advisory board, ESPINEA offers professional and high-quality educational programs, specialty workshops and courses, and an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences. The goal of the academy is to elevate surgeons to the next level of expertise in endoscopic spinal treatment modalities.

The first two ESPINEA® Board Members are Dr. Menno Iprenburg, NL, longstanding endoscopic surgeon and twice Kambin Award recipient, and Kambin Award recipient Prof. Alastair Gibson, UK, whose been performing endoscopic spine surgery since 2005, using almost all system applications.

joimax® Introduces Intracs® em Electromagnetic Navigation System – New Minimally Invasive Device Exhibited at EUROSPINE Barcelona and NASS Los Angeles

Irvine, Calif. — joimax®, the Germany-based market leader of technologies and training methods for full-endoscopic spinal surgery, introduces another minimally invasive device, Intracs® em Electromagnetic Navigation System, at two global spine events: EUROSPINE Barcelona, the Spine Society of Europe’s annual conference and expo (September 19-21), and NASS 2018, the North American Spine Society premier meeting in Los Angeles (September 24-28).

“With developments such as Intracs® em, we are steadily positioning ourselves as true innovators in this space.”, states Wolfgang Ries, Founder and CEO of joimax®, “And we further strengthen our leading role in endoscopic spinal surgery.” he adds.

Intracs® em Electromagnetic Navigation System

Intracs® em relies on electromagnetic tracking and is specifically designed for simple and safe access to any spinal target. For exceptional accuracy, the instruments are vector-guided directly at the tip; therefore, bending of needles or other pliant instruments will not affect the navigation’s precision. The new smart and user-friendly system can serve as a stand-alone device, or be completely integrated with the joimax® Endoscopic Tower. It is the only system on the market which allows for simultaneous navigation of multiple instruments such as needles, guiding rods, reamers, and endoscopes; developed by joimax®.

The full European product launch is scheduled for Q4 2018. The global launch, including the United States, will be rolled out in the beginning of 2019.

joimax® Launches Its Latest Interlaminar Endoscopic System, iLESSYS® Pro, and New 4K Camera Light Source and Documentation Command System, Camsource® LED and Vitegra® at AANS in New Orleans, LA and GSC in Singapore

Karlsruhe, Germany – May 1st 2018 – joimax® again launches new product innovations at the upcoming American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) taking place in New Orleans from April 28 – May 2, and at the Global Spine Congress (GSC) in Singapore, starting May 2. The German based market leader of technologies and training methods for minimally invasive endoscopic spinal surgery expands its family of decompression systems with an additional milestone of its interlaminar endoscopic access systems named iLESSYS® Pro for access and resection within the spinal canal. All endoscopic systems including the members of the so-called iLESSYS® Family will be shown at AANS as well as at GSC, where joimax® will host a full-day workshop with four stations on May 1 and with numerous lectures on endoscopic spine surgery held throughout the congress.

iLESSYS® Pro was developed in collaboration with Christoph Hofstetter, MD, PhD Associate Professor at University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.  It combines the ability to efficiently remove and decompress degenerative spinal pathology from the iLESSYS® Delta with the possibility to enter the spinal canal and treat intraspinal disc pathology which has been a hallmark of the iLESSYS® system. Along with TESSYS®, TESSYS® XT and TESSYS® Isee, now all lumbal and thoracic degenerative pathologies can effectively be treated with joimax® techniques.

“We have re-engineered every part of the iLESSYS® Pro, including dilators, rongeurs and drills with the goal to bring spine endoscopy one step closer to the efficiency of minimally invasive tubular spine surgery. Our patients benefit from the minimal tissue trauma associated with a small working corridor and a low complication rate achieved by superior visualization and illumination by working channel endoscopes. The new scope has completely surpassed my expectations and it is my go-to scope for interlaminar discectomies, medial facetectomies and certain laminectomies.” explains Dr. Christoph Hofstetter.  Also Dr. Ralf Wagner from the Ligamenta Spine Center in Frankfurt, GER expresses his enthusiasm: “The working channel of 4.7 mm allows the use of larger forceps or blades for effective removal of hard tissue and, at the same time, is small enough to ideally suit for working within the spinal canal – really fantastic.”

At both congresses, the company will show its newest combined 4K resolution camera and LED light source system, Camsource® LED and its fully integrated documentation and command system, Vitegra® Docu and Command. They were presented for the first time at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) in New Orleans in March. With these innovations, joimax® again sets a major milestone worldwide. “With a significant growth rate in Q1/2018 we clearly demonstrate our leading role in endoscopic spinal surgery. We are still approaching our goal: to sustainably anchor the endoscopic minimally invasive spine surgery” states Wolfgang Ries, Founder and CEO of joimax®. “This is also reflected in the increase of accepted lectures held at all congresses accompanied by a steadily growing number of publications”.
